The Oregon Community Foundation (OCF) awarded $201,334 at its November board meeting to help strengthen charitable activities of Central Oregon non-profit organizations according to a statement Tuesday by Greg Chaillé, OCF president.
The new grants bring to $589,364 the total funds awarded in 2003 to Deschutes, Crook and Jefferson county organizations, he added.
Linda Moore, Bend, OCF board member, said local members of the community who serve on OCF’s Central Oregon Leadership Council help recommend distribution of discretionary funds based on their knowledge of local and regional charitable needs. The discretionary funds for the three counties amounted to $140,284 from the November grants.
During the nearly 30 years since it was founded, OCF, in partnership with its donors, has built a permanent endowment to improve life in Oregon and promote effective philanthropy.
The endowment now consists of more than 900 charitable funds totaling $400 million, with $27 million annually going toward community grants and scholarships.
